Take Home Folder/Backpack:
Your child will need his/her backpack every day. Your child will bring a folder home every night. This folder will contain any work or notes from us. Please go through the folder every night with your child. Please use the folder to send things back to us. Homework, new word wall words, spelling words and things from the office will be sent home in this folder.
Transportation:
If your child is going to be picked up from school, please send in a note. The note should include the following information: name of student, teacher’s name, date, time of pick up, and name of person authorized for pick up and the parent’s signature. You will need to show identification in order to pick your child up from school. You may also call the front office (847-599-5052) to communicate this information.
Tardiness:
It is important for your child to arrive at school promptly each day. Daily attendance and participation in opening exercises as a class, give the day a positive start. If your child is going be tardy and have hot lunch that day, please call the office no later than 8:45 a.m. This will allow your child to be included in the hot lunch count. If you do not call by 8:45 a.m, please send in a cold lunch with your child for that day.
School Hours:
8:20 a.m. – 2:45 p.m.
Conferences:
Parent-Teacher conferences are held in November and March. These meetings allow us a chance to sit down together, discuss your child’s progress, and set new goals for your child. If at any time during the school year you would like an additional conference, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher. We can set up a date and time.
Report Cards and Progress Reports:
Progress reports and report cards are distributed 3 times each during the school year. Progress reports and report cards are designed to give you an indication of your child’s growth and maturity. Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher if you wish to further discuss the progress report or report card.
Snack:
We will not be having snack in the classroom during the day. Please send a water bottle to school with your child. Please do not send any juice or pop.
Medicine:
All medicine that needs to be taken during the school day must be turned into the school nurse. This includes cough drops.
Food Guidelines:
- Please talk with your child about the importance of not offering, sharing, or exchanging any foods with other students at school.
- Reinforce the need to wash hands with soap and water after eating to decrease the chance of cross-contamination on surfaces at school.
- Remind your child there is a "no eating on the bus" policy.
- Please let me know if your child has any food restrictions.
Birthdays:
If parents choose to send something to school to celebrate a birthday, it should not be an edible treat. Some ideas are below.
1. key chains
2. pencils/pens
3. bubbles
4. stickers
5. temporary tattoos
6 rubber bracelets
7. Donate a book to the class or school library
8. Bookmarks
Field Trips:
Our class may participate in field trips during the school year. A note will be sent home in advance stating all of the necessary information. Keep the note handy so that you will have all of the information the day of the trip, thus eliminating phoning the school and/or sending your child unprepared. Disposable sack lunches and juice boxes are used on field trips. Do not send a thermos or lunch box.
Recess:
Please prepare your child for daily recess outside. Recess is usually held outside unless it is raining, extremely cold, or if the office reports that it is not safe to go outside. If your child needs to stay inside for recess, he/she needs a note from the doctor. Please label all hats, gloves, scarves, boots, and snow pants.
Book Orders:
Sometimes we will send home a Scholastic book order. We will give you at least one week to look over it before it is due back to school. You are under no obligation to order any books, but the clubs usually offer quality books at a discounted price. Your orders help me to earn points to put toward free books for the classroom. If you choose to order books, please send the order form to your child’s teacher, with payment in an envelope that has your child’s name on it. All checks should be made out to Scholastic. Please do not send cash.
